Should you copy a competitor’s ad strategy?

I get asked this question frequently, and the answer is…

It depends.

You should always use the Facebook ads library to look up competitors’ ads.

This can help you see whether people are interested in the product or not.

If there are a lot of ads available, that means your product ads probably do well on Facebook.

If there are no ads available, that may mean Facebook probably doesn’t do well in your industry.

Or, the competitors just don’t know how to run good Facebook ads, which is something I’ve seen pretty often.

So, should you copy a competitor’s ad strategy?

I wouldn’t do it.

Even if there are a lot of ads when you look at their Facebook ads library…

It doesn’t mean they’re good.

80% of the time, when I check B2B company’s FB ads, they aren’t great.

Just because they get a lot of clients doesn’t mean they’re getting them from Facebook ads.

You shouldn’t assume that their ads are outperforming yours.

Because most of the time, they aren’t.
